Culture of living
Ekolo is a festival that brings the citizens of Poreč and its visitors a wide range of cultural and educational content by bringing together all the programmes and goals of the Open University. Originating from the EU project I-Archeo.S. as a pilot activity in the form of the festival Okolo in 2019, the festival of the culture of living has continued in its own direction, listening to the needs of the citizens of Poreč.
Ekolo seeks to reflect on the city, using culture and art to address it as a theme, and is always focused on offering the citizens of Poreč high-quality events outside the tourist season, combining entertainment and education. Thus, the festival programme includes theatre and dance performances, traditional, classical and jazz concerts, screenings of current, award-winning, documentary and cult films, art exhibitions, performances, book promotions, educational workshops and lectures... as well as professionally guided educational tours of Poreč’s landmarks, such as the Euphrasian Basilica or sculpture tours of modern and contemporary art.
The starting point of Ekolo is the awareness that culture is the foundation of all other events and sentiments within a community. The festival is approached as a kind of manifesto – a showcase of good practice in a new approach to cultural tourism and relations with fellow citizens.
Ekolo offers world-class content and provides an opportunity for every citizen and visitor to feel comfortable, free and inspired in the city, and to learn something as well – about the place they are in, the people around them, and above all about themselves.
