glasOmVITA

The desire to help address the lack of audiobooks for blind persons and for persons who have difficulty reading printed text in our local community has encouraged us to equip a professional studio for recording audiobooks and to train volunteer readers who will take part in recording audio materials.

Since blind and visually impaired persons are a particularly vulnerable and marginalised part of society due to the complex interaction of the limitations brought by blindness – from the inaccessibility of information, limited mobility and reduced number of social contacts to societal barriers such as numerous prejudices and the inaccessibility of content and services in the community – it is extremely important to create preconditions for improving their rights and opportunities.

Through the project glasOmVITA, in partnership with DND Poreč, we will implement awareness-raising workshops for children entitled "How the blind read", in which we will introduce children to modern technology that enables visually impaired or blind users to use the internet and read, with the aim of raising awareness and familiarising the public with the challenges that blind persons face in everyday life.

We will equip a professional studio for recording audiobooks, train volunteer readers and a sound technician, and record two pilot audiobooks, thereby enriching the collection of audiobooks and enabling access to literature for blind persons and others who cannot use standard print on their own. In the local community we are expanding services for the needs of persons with disabilities so that together we can contribute to improving their quality of life.

The project glasOmVITA will result in a more sensitised and aware public regarding the challenges that blind persons sporadically face in everyday life and in a higher quality of life for blind persons in the local community. By guiding children towards proper attitudes, tolerance, respect for diversity, patience and empathy, we help create a more educated and sensitive society in which blind and visually impaired persons live successfully as active and equal members of the community.

By equipping a professional recording studio, the overall collection of audiobooks will increase, and the target group in the local community will have access to materials tailored to their needs. Access to literature for blind persons and others who cannot use standard print on their own will be strengthened, and the use of modern digital and information-communication aids will increase, which in turn expands the reading audience and lifelong learning opportunities for this population group. Overall, the quality of life of the users themselves, their families, the volunteers involved in the activities and, ultimately, the wider community will be improved.

The Project starts on 01.08.2022 and lasts until 01.12.2022.

The value of the project is 24,483 kuna.
