The Public Open University is a partner in the project, with the project leader being Teatro Pubblico Pugliese and other partners: the Abruzzo Region, Marche Teatro from Ancona, the City of Pazin and the City of Crikvenica.
The project started on 1 January 2018 and lasted 18 months. The total value of the project is €1,176,243.00. As a project partner, POUP participates with a total amount of HRK 1,130,062.00 (€150,675.00), of which 85% is financed by the EU programme and 15% is the POUP contribution. The result of the project is OKOLO – Week of the Culture of Living.
Through the I-Archeo.S project, an integrated system of services was developed for the valorisation of natural and cultural heritage based on sustainable economic development. Cooperation was established between public bodies, small and medium-sized enterprises and tourist operators, and so-called clusters were formed so that the economic interests of those involved would become part of a common development strategy and ensure the sustainability of the project results.
A concrete cultural-tourism product is being created that will connect specific local features and values into a sustainable and meaningful whole. Through this project, the Public Open University acts as a cultural institution with a rich offer of cultural and artistic programmes and, on this basis, is ready to create a new product as an off-season tourist offer for both the local community and visitors to the city of Poreč. The project results were presented in April 2019 as a pilot activity in the form of an educational itinerary for domestic and international tour operators.
All interested stakeholders from the sectors of sustainable tourism, management of cultural and natural heritage, the agri-food sector, as well as various crafts, had the opportunity to join the project, for their economic interests to become part of a joint development strategy, and for cultural and natural heritage to become the driving force of new economic flows.
