Every Wednesday during July and August, Poreč enjoys top-class jazz concerts in the picturesque lapidarium of the Poreč Heritage Museum. Since 1996, Jazz in the Lapidarium has been offering a rich palette of expressions from all over the world, from chamber jazz and layered performances by Poreč, Istrian and international jazz musicians to jazz combined with other musical genres. The programme always starts at 9 p.m., and admission to all concerts is free.
The variety and quality of the Poreč jazz festival programme ensure a lively musical summer in the city. Dance concerts on the main square opposite chamber performances in the intimate setting of the lapidarium, indigenous musical expressions explored through jazz, improvisations by top instrumentalists and the strong presence of local musicians all reveal freshness and creativity in the choice of content, which is also reflected in the festival’s visual identity.
True to jazz as a genre, the festival connects different elements and merges them into a unique fusion of artistic tendencies. And they all share a common thread – the art of musical play and the search for free expression. The basic concept of the festival, besides offering high quality, is to encourage authorship, support artistic creativity and affirm the place, the artists and the already well-defined and ever-growing audience that follows it. For more than a quarter of a century, loyal audiences have been enjoying, commenting and discussing jazz, and every summer many interested and satisfied tourists join them.
At Jazz in the Lapidarium, everyone can find their place under the summer sky and surrender to the power of music.
