The children’s brass band Porečki delfini (Poreč Dolphins), later renamed the Children’s Wind Orchestra, began its work in 1992 at the Public Open University Poreč. The members of the orchestra were school-age children and students. These ambitious beginners learned their first notes in the classrooms of the University. Slowly but surely, like the dolphins whose name they bear, they dove into musical waters.
Young musicians learn different playing techniques on instruments such as: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, posaune, tenor horn, tuba, percussion, guitar and bass guitar. They diligently rehearse orchestral scores and learn to make music together. From year to year, the number of participants grows, and the greatest joy lies in socialising – with each other and with music.
Already in their first year, they performed in front of the Poreč audience, winning the sympathy of their fellow citizens and the wholehearted support of the City of Poreč-Parenzo. Little by little, the orchestra took its place in the cultural life of the city. Numerous performances followed – more than 30 per year.
Poreč Dolphins give young people the opportunity to spend their free time making music, socialising, performing at city concerts and events on national holidays, and at invited performances. Throughout the year, the orchestra enriches the city’s cultural offer. Their musical repertoire is diverse – from evergreens to well-known melodies in which rock, Latin rhythms, swing and jazz intertwine.
