Amateur drama

Amateur drama

Amateur drama developed in primary and secondary schools through projects with students, and along these lines Drago Orlić in the 1980s staged three plays. In the same way, in the 1990s, Branko Mrkušić gathered a group of high school students as their history and Latin teacher, and achieved great success with the play Antigona u trapericama (Antigone in Jeans).

At the Public Open University Poreč, amateur drama activity has a long tradition and, in addition to theatre productions, has resulted in numerous activities in which members are regularly engaged at special events as well as in the filming of promotional and music videos.

At the beginning of February 1997, the drama workshop of the Public Open University was officially formed, led by B. Mrkušić.

Plays produced by the drama workshop:
Hasanaga by Tomislav Bakarić, 1997
Zatvoreni krug (Closed Circle) by Branko Mrkušić, 1998, staging of parts of the play
Nick Cave u živo (Nick Cave Live), a project combining stage, music and film elements, 46 actors and actresses, 1999

Voda (Water) by David Belas, 2004

In 2010, the drama workshop Mrki teatar was founded, which during its activity produced six plays. It was established after the death of Branko Mrkušić and led by Katja Restović, head of music and stage activities. Mrki teatar produced a total of six plays, some based on scripts by Katja Restović.

In 2018, the drama studio Čin, čin was launched in cooperation with the Poreč Youth Centre. The studio once again revitalises the amateur theatre scene in Poreč and further enriches the city with its own theatrical expression. It was initiated by the head of music and stage activities, David Belas, in collaboration with Vesna Stilinović, a retired actress. Participants learn about all stages of creating a theatre performance, the skills of stage movement and the art of stage speech through improvisations and games in the stage space.
